DEMO CRISIS

l went to see the exhibition DEMO CRISIS at the Syntagma metro station exhibition hall. The exhibition is from 1st until the 7th of April 2019 and it’s the 2nd year of a cartoonist exhibition which featured art by Greek and Italian artists.

The image that was used for the events poster was made by Konstatinos Sklavenitis. I am a big fan of his comics and his cartoonist work for the newspaper “TA NEA”, also knowing he would be there gave me the chance to catch up, he is a good friend.

Although it was the day before the exhibition ended there where a lot of people who came to visit. Looking at each of the art that was exhibited made me realize that it takes talent to transmit a message through an image.

At the exhibition was also the cartoonists Panagiotis Mitsobonos and John Antonio. Both of them and Kostas Sklavenitis signed my copy of the exhibition catalogue!

ZAHVALNICA

Although I draw from a very young age I never became a comic book artist.

It was such a pleasure though when comic book author Marko Stojanović asked me to participate in a comic book competition in Serbia, the XV Balkan Festival of Young Comic Book Writers. I receiving an acknowledgement.

This gave me the motivation to try again and improve my writing and drawing skills.

I do believe competitions help spread the word and also give the opportunity for creative people to reveal their talent, compare it with others and try to gain a new influence.

I hope I will be part of many more events celebrating the art of comics in the future, I will really enjoy it.

Like a Dream

Isn’t this an amazing picture?

Yes, it is and it’s one of Konstantinos Sklavenitis creations. This painting is one of several which will be part of his two-day exhibition.

Konstantinos Sklavenitis is a cartoonist and a  comic book artist.

Tomorrow he will have his very first exhibition and presentation of his first comic book.

The art in the comic book is similar to the items that will be part of the exhibition.

I really enjoyed watching how he was setting up the exhibition hall with friends. While they were putting up the final details I had the chance to walk around and admire his art.

I also got the chance to go through his comic book for a second time, I enjoyed reading it yet again

Tomek – Comic Book Exhibition

Tomek is one of my favourite comic book artists in Greece, so when I heard there would be an exhibition with original art from his comics I definitely needed to go.

I was lucky enough to be on time and hear Tomek talking about his background on how he started to draw, what influenced him and how he expresses himself through his art.  He also gave us tips on how to draw and how to set up a story.

It was a pleasure visiting the exhibition and I really like Tomek’s art, even more so now.

I will keep in mind his suggestion that no matter how cool a comic is if the cover does not catch your eye you will never approach it, I totally agree.
