Marvel promises a new darker path for the Punisher in the new series that will be coming out this March. This new limited series will be in persitige format of 13 oversized issues written by Jason Aaron and with art by  Jesús Saiz and Paul Azaceta.

Each issue will explore Frank Castles past, present and future, as Jason Aarons says “This story is the destined next step in the dark and tragic evolution of Frank Castle, from troubled kid to heroic soldier to revenge-driven vigilante…to the duly anointed King of Killers.” whereas  Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski said “The story Jason is telling – a truly epic tale about darkness, violence, and choices – can only be told with the Punisher at its core. This series will build on Frank’s legacy while introducing us to a side of him we’ve never seen before, setting the stage for an evolution that we’ll find was inevitable.”

We have seen Punisher follow different paths through the decades and they were always violent, he has been part of teams although he is truly a loner, he has a cause to fulfill no matter what and that will always make him dangerous both for the super heroes and villains.

The question is who is Frank Castle, is he a vigilante, a blood thirsty murderer or an anti-hero which can be part of the super hero community? I hope by the end of this series we will finally get to see where the Punisher stands in the Marvel Universe, Jason Aaron promises it will be a darker evolution.

All sounds exciting and I do know Aaron delivers the best of stories, I just hope what he does will be a more permanent thing for the Punisher and not a faze where we see him in couple of years part of the Avengers or Thunderbolts or Defenders or Guardians of the Galaxy…or even a Krakoan.
